The flashbacks in this book create another plot which the author has blended well with the main plot. The clever plot keeps the readers engaged in the book till the very end.
The book has a bit of violence and dark moments which lend a disturbing quality while reading certain scenes. The twisted plot adds to the darkness of the story, making it more captivating and intriguing. The theme is original and that makes it a refreshing read when compared to many fantasy stories.

The fantastic dystopian world Wrack, Brin, and Avar find themselves living in is truly a unique look at how the power of greed causes decay, not only in the world around them, but within the hearts of The Doomed. This distorted physical representation of evil and a ransacked natural order gives readers a bottoming-out feeling, challenging any microcosm of hope to find a toe-hold. Living with these characters as we see the good and evil in each of them and the constant shift in that balance echo the truth and reality of what anyone might face.

Wrack is a fascinating hero with a tortured psyche, whose inner journey against the evil he feels is just as important as the outward evils we meet in this terrifying new world. Puster's locations are spine-tingling in their realism, easily imagined and hard to forget. Fans of both horror and epic fantasy are certain to immerse themselves in this sublime world and never wish to leave, as page after page of adventure and intrigue unfold. Flayed is a thrilling continuation in a masterful fantasy series that requires your full attention, but is well worth the effort by its startling conclusion. Highly recommended for those in search of darkness.
